Default Transmission porblems...Is it an electrical issue?(Video inside)

*2000 Camaro Z28 A4 4L60E*

My transmission started acting up today when i was driving...it was about 95* outside and i was just crusing not really getting on it much when all of a sudden my speedometer started acting funny...it started dancing around all stupid and eventually it just gave out and wasnt marking my speed...then my transmission failed to change gears...it went 1-2 and wouldnt shift into 3rd at all my RPMs would just rev up like if i had the shift selector on 2 when it was on (D). Had this problem last summer and took the car to a transmission shop and the guy said he thinks its electrical. I drove the car around in hotter weather this summer with no problems at all. Is it time for a rebuild or is this problem electrical? where do i start so i can diognose it?? idk where to start please help me this is my daily driver that i use to go to work. i dont have any other vehicle. After the car sat for 30 mins the tranny is shifting fine again.

start with replacing/checking output speed sensor/the plug/wires to it
scan for codes first.
sensor is on the tail housing.

I see the check engine light is on, any idea why? Thats there to help diagnose problems like this.
It's not going to shift into 3rd or 4th if the VSS is outputting a speed under the 2-3 shift point.

What exactly did your transmission guy do?
You need to scan for codes and go from there.

bolted on racing longtube headers last winter so i got rid of the EGR and also the A.I.R. systems...SES is showing codes for that and 02 sensor heater circuit malfunction...the guy at the transmission shop ran a special scanning tool and found no problems with the transmission. He just recommended i install an after market transmission cooler but he said he thinks its something electrical

i dont see how the 02 sensor or exhaust gas recirc. is going to effect the transmission or make it malfunction. it was close to 110 yesterday so i think maybe its overheating

I'm just saying that when the check engine light is stuck on for other reasons you're not going to know when something new comes up.

I guess your guy checked for that though. It would be nice if he had a breakout box and controlled the transmission with it to determine if it was really an electrical problem instead of just guessing.

If the speedo does not work the trans will not shift even if its perfect it will act erratic and likley only shift 1-2 the speedo issue is not a transmission issue ,
Its either the VSS or wiring to the VSS or possibly a ground issue.
Beleave it or not and strange as it sounds many trans shops actually dont mess with electrical issues like that. You may need to take it to someone who does electronics diagnosis.

Im gonna check up on that VSS and wiring...i have also noticed the ECU harness is exposing all the wires and some of them are dark or look burnt and showing some copper wire! Not good. This vehicle used to belong to the state of colorado was a highway patrol it looks like the wiring has been tampered with on the ECU. BTW a performabuilt tranny looks very tempting....whats your warranty on those if you can PM me please. Thanks for the advice and help guys

Here is a question for you: Did you put an aftermarket VSS last summer or was it OEM? If it was from Autozone or some place, I bet it has gone to crap.

I think I'd address the bare wires at the ECU harness before assuming the vss is crap.
