Only one I can think Your asking about is in the torque converter. I believe it redirects fluid from one side to the other to help build fluid velocity. Rides on a one way clutch

When the turbine is spinning appreciably slower than the pump, the fluid exiting the turbine is opposing the direction of rotation of the pump (i.e. opposing the pump); the stator bends (redirects as said above) the fluid direction to be with the rotation of the pump (i.e to assist the pump); the stator tries to counter-rotate but is prevented by the one-way clutch;

when the turbine is spinning at almost the same speed as (or faster than) the pump, the fluid exiting the turbine is in the same direction as the rotation of the pump (i.e. assisting the pump), so the stator is in the way, and the one-way clutch freewheels allowing the stator to spin with the fluid (i.e. stator becomes a no op) avoiding impeding the fluid.

Bigger isn't the word but a different stator with more or less blades at different angles will alter the stall speed.

You could do that but you'd still have a big, heavy pig
that now you've sunk serious money and risk into, at
the hands of someone who probably doesn't do it much.
Just buy one that's done right, and has a warranty.

where can i find a different stator for my 2005 GMC Sierra 1500?

I actually have 3 different stock converter's that i would like to play with and make a good or decent stall converter around 2800-3200. Is there somewhere i can get a stator to really open up the stall?

It's way more than changing the stator. There are other things that effect stall speed, how are you going to know what does what?
Then how are you going to cut the converter open? How are you going to weld it back up?

+1 what Jay said.

When cutting/welding the TC case, there are various dimensions/alignments that have to be maintained... this can't be done without some equipment/tools... and when welding, to have to be careful to avoid burning the case...

you also have to leak test the finished job, measure the internal play, and test it's function.

it would be cheaper to buy a pre-made one as Jimmy said (when you buy one, they ask you about your cam, gearing, vehicle and they get you a matched stall).

To change change stall speed you would have to change the angle on the turbine fins. The stator redirects fluid from one side to the other as it comes from the pump to build pressure turning mechanical energy into fluid energy

A nice mild upgrade thats inexpensive is to use a trailblaser converter. You wont get 2800, but they do stall higher and multiply torque at a higher %.
