Default 4l60E vs. 700R4

Which whill hold more power freshly rebuilt? I dont need it to last forever i just need it to last a few months. I got a deal on a 700r4, $500 installed. Or i can pull my 4l60e and do it myself for about the same... my car makes a little over 400whp So i need something that will hold that for a while...

The 4l60e is basically a 700 with electronics so if they are built the same I would think hp ability would be similar.

i just called my guy at the local speed shop and he said teh 700r4 will hold about 350whp before noticable damage. The 4l60e is up in the air as we all know. It break under stock power from time to time. im looking into a rebuild kit for my 4l60e, any ideas?

you will hate yourself if you go backwards with a 700r4. pound per pound the '60s were stronger than the 700, plus you dont wanna mess with that damn TV cable.

the 700r4 in my 85 seems to hold up pretty well under abuse, but i'm not kicking nearly the power you're talking about. I definitely like the way my 4l60 feels better, even after having the shift kit put in my 700.

I would hope that a stock rebuild would hold for 20 passes. But I have no idea if it would or not.

You will loose your speedo. So for the same price just rebuild what you got. You'll be able to sell it easier later. Can you get a cheap junk yard th350 long tail and convert for a bit, no tv, dropes in, and even less cost just a trans x member. you'll still losse the speedo but the car will be faster and lighter. I've done it, ran great.

tv cables can be crazy on 700r4's!! as for rebuilding them they both use the same parts just less computer mess with the 700, unless you are into that stuff. lol

but what about the difference in 1st gear ratio? you don't think that the 3.06 of the 4l60 would help in compairison to the 2.52 of the th350?
