Default Got the GTO trans in the TA...question about the shifts

Ok so i put a 04 GTO trans/converter in my 99 TA to replace mine after the converter came apart. I used the GTO pan and swapped the shifter rod/tailhousing and everything went pretty smooth. When driving the car it seems to shift VERY smooth especially going into OD but seems to shudder a little when the converter locks. Is this normal? Car had a small TCI converter in it when i bought it so not sure how it should feel with a stock one or if the GTO trans/converter makes a difference. Any info would be appreciated.

The soft shifts and the shudder is and indication of low line presure. This could be duE to a bad presure control solenoid but could be car related to and could even be related to your previuos converters failure. You need to do some line presure test with a guage before you drive it more.

Could this have something to do with the computer tune that it has? Also the cooler lines run through the radiator then to the cooler could this be a problem?

could it be that the converter is locking under part throttle too soon
not allowing it to slip so you get that shudder

It's not the cooler.
It would be best to check line pressure as suggested above.

If line pressure is ok it would have to be internal calibration differences between the two transmissions.
Comparing a 1999 camaro to a 2004 GTO I see slightly more line pressure both constant and tcc apply.

I'd put a shift kit in it to eliminate the calibration difference. Personally I'd tune it too but thats just me.
