Well of course good hard parts and clucth sets you can get some ideas from our website but more importantly a well worked hydraulic system if you dont have that worked out then its a lost cause and no a simple shift kit will not accomplish the goal.

this is the third time it would be rebuilt. i called a well known tranny shop today for some info, i said i needed to hold 550-600 hp. they laughed and said "u did say 4l60e and not 4l80e right?"

i guess a 4l80e is in my future.

if they laughed then they dont know jack. RPM transmissions have cars with way more horse than that runnin low 9 and their 4l60s work just fine. Good parts and a good tune on trans as well as a good trans cooler and u will be fine.

You may wanna check this info out. We have more than a few 1000hp cars running our 4L60e transmissions without any issues. These cars have put years on their transmissions without failure.

When you say years without failure, does that mean new clutches, etc as part of the maintenance? Not trying to contradict you just asking because I'm wondering what is considered proper maintenance to get a 4L60E to stay together at those kinds of power levels.

Some people say it can be done and prove it and others swear up and down it's impossible and have mulitple failures.

Im curious to why you went from asking what it takes to hold 600rwhp with a 4L60e to saying "they just dont last" in just a few days? Whoever you called obviously hasn't put the years of R&D into their transmissions like the sponsors here on LS1tech have. The reason we work so hard at making 4L60e transmissions last is most people don't want to give up overdrive or modify their cars to accept another type of transmission. It takes quite a bit of work and fabrication to fit anything but a factory style transmission in them.

With Al's red C5 Z06 we open the transmissions and inspect them after 3-4 months of running just to make sure everything is good. 9 times out of 10 there are no issues at all. We don't replace clutches after "X" amount of passes or miles. Arun's C5 Z06 had years of VERY low 9 second passes on it at over 800rwhp (and he races his car a lot) and we pulled it apart just to check it out while we were installing a new converter and there was ZERO damage inside.

Thanks that's nice to know. Every built 4L60 I've seen fail or start to fail with issues like the 2-3 shift flaring, it seems like the trans was overheated within the last couple of months. It's usually high stall, high outside temps not enough transcooler, the trans survives the day but within months it's slipping or looses the 3/4 clutch pack altogether.

I'm no expert but just the perception I have.

Excessive heat will kill even the best built transmissions. I can't stress enough how important cooling is with any transmission, built or not. 2-3 flairs can be caused by many things. Low line pressure, impropper clearances or even just being worn out. The most important thing in any automatic is hydraulics and fluid flow.
