I have a few questions about swapping in a 4L65E trans into a older car using a 4th gen F-body radiator.

1)... what size tranny lines should I be using? None on there now to compare to.

2)....Which line off the trains goes to the top or the radiator(I am assuming this is the IN/hot side) hense which goes to the low side/radiator

3)...where would be a good spot to instal a trans fluid temp sender and what temp range should I be shooting for? Stock trans but with with a little firmer shifts ( Whatever John Spears does)

4)...When I got my trans, it was shipped with fluid drained. What type of fluid should I use? Dexron III? Ballpark on # of quarts?

The bottom trans line goes to the bottom radiator line. If you use an auxillary cooler it goes inline with the top line.

5/16's steel lines are fine for what you are doing. If you plan on installing a temp sender I would install it in the return line or in the transmission oil pan. Vince

Isn't the bottom hose of a 4gen Fbody radiator the cold(return) side? I would think if you were going to run a auxillary cooler, I'd want in last in line before returning to the trans. Is my thinking wrong?

No the bottom line is hot fluid in. All liquid to liquid heat exchangers Are 100% efficient when the fluids flow opposite directions.
I like my temps to run around 160 to 200. I see 185 most of the time.

Dexron III is no longer made. The stuff you find at the autoparts store will say for Dexron III applications or something to that effect. It's not Dexron III and not regulated.

The GM regulated replacement is Dexron VI, that means the walmart super-tech Dexron VI should be identical to the GM brand.

As far as what fluid, I've used a few different brands of Dex/Merc compatible and noticed no real difference. Except for one quart of super-tech that was clear instead of red.

So get what ever brand you feel comfortable with.
How much depends on whether the converter is drained, is the trans rebuilt, etc.
Just buy 10 quarts and go from there.

Short answer: get 8 quarts dex/merc.

Thanks Jay. No rebuild, Clevland pic-a-part drains the fluid once they process/aquire it. I doubt the converter was drained.

2005 trans, stock pan, Trailblazer verter, all dry. Put 1 qt in the verter, and 9 more after, to get to close to full. [cold]
Warmed up, 1 additional qt, dead on full....
We use Amsoil synthetic.

dex 3 is still being sold in stores.. most all gms that ive done take a minimum of 12qts but some can take upwards of 17 or 18
