Default Anyone with regrets...4L80E into a 98-02 F-Body

I'm planning this in the next couple months. Search has a million things and I can't really spend 50 hours going through them all to pull out certain info.

Can anyone who has done it tell me what problems they ran into during the install....and/or what problems came up later on?

What PCM adapter did you use or how did you tune for the 4L80E?

What install/conversion kit did you use?

How about dealing with the linkage assembly for gear selection?

How about a drive shaft?

Mine will have about 850 RWHP/RWTQ on spray.

Thanks...........

Just some minor cutting to clearance the connector.. Some people have had to hammer the tranny tunnel in some also but that was not the case with mine..

EFILive is what I used.

Got everything I needed from Jake's(including BMR tranny crossmember)..

How about a drive shaft?
Stock length w/ different yoke, iirc.

Mine will have about 850 RWHP/RWTQ on spray.

Thanks...........

It was pretty straight forward to be honest. I think its one of the greatest things i've done to the car thus far.

Damn, thanks.....that makes me feel better. I had a 4L80E sitting in a crate for a year. Haven't even seen it yet, bought and paid for sitting at my friends house in Ft. Myers, Florida. Its time to put it in with my new engine.........this 4L60E has been great for 8 years, but it not gonna handle the new set up.

Do you know if the linkage hooks right up to stock mounts?

Thanks for the input.

I had a M6 in my car for 8 years and put a 4L80 in and wish i had done it years ago. very strong tranny form the factory. I have FMVB so i dont use the PCM to control it. I like shifting it. Its a lot of work converting it , but well worth it

I did the M6 to 4L80 conversion over last winter. Overall I'm very happy with the swap, did a FMVB in mine as well and it's a blast to drive.

We swapped the 4l60e for an 80e and an FTI stall about a year ago. I love it. Just wish I had done a shift kit at the same time. lol.

Can anyone tell me what is involved in making the shifter linkage hook up to the stock mounts?

What modding needs to be done?

The cable that came with my B&M shifter and everything hooked up to the 80 linkage no problem.. I'm not sure on this exact question as im still learning everything. I'll send slow67 this way, he can answer your question for sure. His memory is much better then mine, haha.

What shifter? I'm not sure if your using stock, but for B&M I had to modify the bracket that bolts to the pan, and make my own (from scratch) for the bracket that goes on the selector lever.

How do you like your FTI converter? Does it seem to be a quality piece? Everybody on here screams Circle D and Yank, which I know are excellent according to the history record. Reason why I ask is, I can drive to FTI in 20 minutes. I like the local idea. Sorry for the "jack" on the thread.

Well, I have a 4L60E, so what needs to be done to make the 4L80E shifter linkage work with my factory linkage mounts?

I dunno my car was a T56. Search for cablebandit's posts, I think he used a stock shifter and posted how.

All you have to do is install your 4l60 shifts linkage arm onto the 80. And elongate the holes on the mount. And that's it.

Alright, thanks. So my tranny guy will see what needs to be done on his own, right? Its not like he'll be stumped and not know what to do......

I love my FTI converter. I have owned a few stalls from different manufactures and this is a really nice part. I am currently working on rebuilding my race car and I know it will have an FTIwhen it is finished.
