Default It figures as soon as I pay the car off

the transmission starts doing the swirly thing around the toilet bowl.

It's not all that surprising since the car has 140k on it but it had to happen at the most in opportune time for me.

I've been looking around and I can get a rebuilt trans for around 1k or possible have the one in my car rebuilt for a little less than that.

Are there any significantly less expensive options?

Are the trans for the v6 cars interchangeable into a v8 car? I know the out put shaft is the same and they should have a bolt on bell housing right? Can I yank a trans from a truck and use the tail shaft from my trans with the TA mount?
Could I yank a trans from a 2wd truck and use a cheap cross member mounted ta? What about a 700r4 from a junker with an adapter?

I'm really just trying to find out what my cheapest option to get another year before I need to spend real money to get a decent transmission into the car.

All your ideas above are possible but the conversion of parts will outweigh any savings.

I just looked on car-part.com and they seem to be going for $500 to $900 with the average mileage around 85,000. If you look there don't get confused with the $3000 and up prices, those are for the engine and trans swap out.

Heres one from Ohio. Mileage not listed.

Truck trans will drop right in, basically. I'd be shopping for one of those if I needed to throw a stocker in.
