Best bang for the buck 4L60E for 500rwhp?
My car currently is making right at 500rwhp and my stock 4L60E is not happy. Looking to upgrade to a built trans and get a stall for the car.
What are some of the best bang for the buck trannies out there? I don't need all the bells and whistles but want it to live for many years to come.
Looking at the following options:
Performabuilt
RPM
Xtreme Performance

I just want something that can reliably handle my current 480rwhp and at the most 600rwhp as I do have more plans for the car including camming it along with a ls6 intake and going to the 200 jets from the current 150's.

Our Level 5 would do everything you need it to do with your current setup. If you add another 50-70hp you will be aproching the limits but I don't think you will exceed them. My only suggestion is to consider our Level 6 if your car is on the heavy side. The Level 6 has a 300m Chromoly output shaft that raises the HP limit significantly. Please feel free to as any questions.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I need to do a little more research and compare the FLT and the RPM trannies and also see if anyone locally here can do anything similar for the same or close price.
Jeremy: My car is a full weight 98 Transam. I have no clue what it weighs but it has ZERO weight reduction and never will. I drive it all the time so I might look into the shaft upgrade you speak of.

No sales BS here what so ever. This is one F-body guy to another. 99.9% of the time going "locally" turns out bad. You spend big money on good parts just to have a general transmission shop assemble the trans. Then a few months down the road you smoke it and ruin most of the big money parts you put into it. You have the top of the top transmission builders in our LS1 community here at your disposal, our builders eat, sleep and breathe 4L60e transmissions EVERY day. The price you pay (which is sometimes less than a local shop) is for the years of R&D these builders have done perfecting their transmissions. Most local shops build 4L60e transmissions for daily driven cars, trucks and SUVs with less than 300hp and most of them never use 50% of their power. The builders here are ready and willing to ship you a transmission for a very reasonable price. Our shipping to VA is only $169, and we pay for the shipping on your core return. Save yourself months of hassel and wasted downtime that you could be racing and enjoying your car. It isn't worth it to "try" with a local builder that wil more than likely let you down in the long run.
An upgraded shaft wouldn't be a bad idea for you if you are staying full weight. I know us F-body guys like to keep adding power as long as we can. If you break the motor you are only going to build it bigger next time. If you go with one like our Level 6 with the 300m chromoly output shaft then it will give you room to grow in the future.

Johnny over at Xtreme Performance Transmissions in Lomita Calif. builds a Killer 4L60E & 4L65E with the 5 Pinion Planetary Gear set.
I have this trans in my Z28 & it shifts like a Turbo 400.
He also has HP Tuner software for Programing your Transmission.
His level 3 Transmission is good for 650-700 H.P.
Johnny has great prices & backs everything he builds. Johnny will be a sponser at the LA Invasion event coming up in May.

FLT and RPM both build nice tranmissions. I personally have a Performabuilt level 2 and love it. When Brian Herter with PCMforless tuned my car, he actually asked me what trans I had in it because he was impressed with it. Thats saying something considering how many thousands of cars he has tuned.
Regardless, you can't go wrong with any of the companies mentioned.

Yeah I'm kinda thinking it may be best to just order one from a big name company. What Jeremy said makes perfect sense and I totally get what he's saying.
