Default shimming the converter

I was wondering how much room I can't have between the converter and flexplate I already shimmed it probably a 1/4 inch and there's a little place left.

We need to determine what a little place left is. Have you tried the drill bit trick? What converter and flexplate is it? You need to make sure you do not pull the pilot out of the crank.

Look up the sticky regarding torque converter installations. You want about an 1/8" of space between the flexplate and converter mounting pads. Measure with an 1/8" drill bit or use feeler blades added to .125.

Thanks guys didn't know it was that common, my first converter I didn't have to, 2nd converter I had rebuilt and resurfaced and had to, so I just took a guess and shimmed it right. Then on this new yank it had a big gap so I wanted to check.
