best convertor
any opinions on what the best convertor is for drivability and performance on a bolt on 00 z/28 with .273s going to .373s? I'm thinking around 3600 rpm? Also, after a cooler, is the stock tranny a reliable one, or should it be swapped? It's a 60000 mile car that has pretty much been pampered its whole life. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well according to Yank the ss3600 is the best all around street/strip converter being 96% efficient. Thats what I went with and I love it bigtime. Your trans is fine just as long as you go to the right tuner for a tune. I did my converter swap 7k miles ago at 92k and its been perfect.

Stick with the 2.73's to start with, as you might like to "keep" the gas mileage that the 2.73's offer. Tell me how you drive? Conservative? Moderate? Moderately aggressive? Or aggressive? With the stock motor, the way you drive will determine the stall you will need more than anything. Going to 3.73's without going to some really good sticky tires, will slow you down and take the gas mileage with it. I have seen 4 - 7 tenths gain with a good torque converter in the quarter mile, but with the same rear end gear ratio change you suggest, 2 tenths at best. Precision Industries Vigilante comes with a 2 year free stall change, and a 5 year warranty. I do not know what Yank offers.

Edge Racing is the converter I chose. I've been street driving and racing it for four years and love it. Street manors are almost stock like untill you get into the throttle and cutting 1.5's for 60ft times. Customer service is outstanding. Whom ever you choose call them first and tell them your goals. A good builder will ask many questions to fit you with the right converter.

I have pretty much the same question but my car has 125k on it with a motor swap and it only has 52k ( it's still a ls1) I want something that will be good with everyday driving and I don't want to be driving and look back and see my trans on the road behind me haha
