Suppliers in the detroit area get 500up for a late 80 core and 175up for 60 cores.
The demand is so high (out state) they dont even bother trying to sell them locally to shops.
Its amazing how much the market in scrap metals are up. Kinda sucks.

the price of shipping one almost doubles the core price, not a great deal for the buyer, esp if the core turns out as bad
i have a few 80E's, if i see them near me cheap, i grab them
i know Jasper puts like a $900 core charge, they want the core back more than the $$$$
search your local Craigslist, talk to mechs. @ a dealership, junkyards, you can find them

One of my local core suppliers stopped in today and we were talking pricing. Scrap metal prices are up. Locally they are paying 250 per ton for steel.
He had a truck load of ford c-4 transmissions he was taking to a local shop up the road from me @ 125.00ea (I thought that was high) I was surprised to hear him say 245mm converter cores were only worth scrap metal prices as of today. Looks like I might be buying a batch of 245/285/265mm converters for cheap (4-5 bucks each) Cummings diesel converters he offered to buy @125.00. 4L80e converters he was offering 30ea.
Not a single late 4l80 or 60 in his inventory. All sold out of state.
My GM dealer connection said core charges on 6L80e's are 700.00.

I would check local yards and local transmission shops for cores. And, there is a parts wanted section and it does work
