Default 4l80e yoke question

Im trying to buy a slip yoke for my 4l80e and I noticed there is a bunch of different series of them. Does anybody know the exact series I need? Would it be the 1350? BTW- here is a link of the different ones. http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...ip-yoke-1.html

BTW- I plan on using the stock drive shaft...

You will need to know if the trans you have has a oring seal on the output shaft or an oring that is installed in a sleeve that is pressed on to the output shaft. Get this info and I'm sure that they can point you in the right direction.Vince

Is this something I can tell by looking at it or will I have to take it apart? The trans is from a 2002 silverado I believe.

Ok unbolted the tail housing, and Im not exactly sure what seal your talking about. I didnt see anything. There was an oring in the housing itself where it bolted to the trans. Ill take it back off and post some pics tomorrow.

the output shaft will either have about 5 inches of spline than a rubber o ring about one inch from the spline or there will be spline almost all the way down the output shaft. btw the very end of the shaft is not tapped for a bolt is it? (the thread will be 1/2 fine if it is)

Ok, took the housing off again. The Spline part is about 5in long, then theres a small gap, then an o-ring (metal ring made into the output shaft). Does this help? Ive got a picture, but it will have to wait till I get home to post it up.

ok then technically (i even looked this up in my gm official repair manual) your output shaft was designed to have a fixed yoke and a driveshaft that slips. That is what the thread is for to hold the yoke to the output shafts, but i could have sworn that there is yoke like you need that takes an o ring i may be wrong though.

The output shaft on my 4l60e has a threaded hole also, and It came stock with a slip yoke. It think this is something that all have. It doesnt look like there has ever been a bolt threaded in the output shaft before.

Anybody else know? I need to order a yoke today or tommorow. Its the last piece I need to finish my conversion.

Thanks!

you can order a yoke just tell them the output shaft is an o ring type. when you get the yoke the tip will have about an inch or two of spline missing, that is the area the o ring seals against. 4l60e has a tapped hole never hear of that, i know they are dimpled so when they are spun at the factory.

yes i does matter the series, that is the size of the u joint, if you are using stokc u joints i believe they are 1330. but if you have an after market shaft i would ask who made it what they are. no dont cut the end off leave it if you dont it will leak.

Ok looks like I found the one I need. The stock Ujoint series on a 99 Z28 is 3147series (or 3R). The output shaft is 32 spline, so I need this one. http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...duct-5557.html

I got in touch with somebody there this morn, and talked with them. Hopefully this is the answer to all my questions. Thanks for you help...

It has to be a th400 slip yoke. All th400 slip yokes have a few inches on the ID that is smooth, not splined. You CANNOT use a 32 spline slip yoke with splines all the way to the end.

There are 5 types of 4L80E output shafts that I know of.
1. Is just like a th400 and will accept either a bolt on yoke or th400 slip yoke. They usually come with a bolt on yoke.
2. Slip yoke only. These have splines all the way up to the rear bearing. A slip yoke with splines to the end will work with this type and usually came with this type.
3. HD truck series with tail mounted brake. Same as type one but about 3/4 longer. You can remove all the brake stuff and tail housing, put on a regular tail housing, and use a th400 slip yoke. The driveshaft might need to be 3/4" shorter.
4. 4x4 shaft, real obvious and real short. If you convert a 4x4 4L80E to a regular output shaft don't forget to put a reluctor wheel on the output carrier, it's in the trans case.
Guess thats only four.

So what are you saying I bought the wrong one? It is a th400 slip yoke. 32 spline. The guy on the phone told me if it was to long to cut some off the end, that they had guys doing it all the time. So im assuming its the one that doenst have the splines all the way to the end.

No I'm not saying you got the wrong one. I just put this up because I have 5 4L80E's and they're all different, just sharing what I've seen.
But you need to be sure the yoke is right, a friend of mine put the wrong one in a th400, it only moved in and out about 1/2", when he launched hard it bottomed out and broke the trans case. Just make sure it has enough in and out travel when you get it set up. It sucks when things break.

Well I got the yoke today and it has the splines all the way to the end, and according to ya'll this isnt going to work. Why cant I just cut some off the end if its too long? I guess Ill see how it fits and if its not good Ill send it back. This has been a real pita...
