Default Is my Full Manual 4L60E shifting correct?

I bought my car with the full manual conversion done... so im not sure how it is supposed to act but here is what its doing...

when I come to a stop or go into 1st after reversing or taking off, its like its in 2nd or something until I rev it up a little then it acts like it drops down into 1st.. and then its fine... or if im coming to a slow and put it in first at say 10 ish mph and give it a little gas I can feel it downshit into 1st other wise if I come to a stop light and put it in first I have to first give it some gas and then it goes into 1st gear.....

1st -2nd shift is instant at any throttle 2-3 shift is delayed a tad, but its firm, 3rd-OD same delay its not instant, with within 1 second...

is this normal? fluid is fine no slipping or anything like that...

Its full manual probably with engine brake. You probably need to use your brake at the same time to declerate the engine.

^^^WTF?

sounds like the linkage needs lubrication and/or tightening or loosening.

I think ls1ya is right it does feel more like an engine brake... thanks! it has nothing to do with the linkage but thanks!

If your coming to a dead stop and you have to rev it up to put it in 1st gear or get it to go into 1st gear, then it's has nothing to do with engine braking...

Im just telling you this as I had the same problem after re building my trans. When put into "1st" it felt like it was in 1st and 2nd at the same time. I then got into the car(mechanic was in it) and shifted it into first like I normally do(harder than he did) and it went into 1st gear fine. I adjusted the linkage and lubricated it and it's perfect now.

Do you have a rachet shifter? Or are you using the stock shifter?
