Im slowly discovering all the half-assed 'mods' the original owner did to my car
As far as I know, it still has the original 4l60/700r4 but he claims he installed a manual valve body and the car needs to be shifted manually. the car prefers both...
Heres my question(s)
1) how do I know it has a manual valve body? ...shifting manually, 1-2 throws you back in the seat, 2-3 is kinda lazy/slow taking a second or so to shift, and 3-4 is quick but not like 1-2
2) can manual valve bodied cars be driven in auto? If I put it in D, half throttle it shifts nice and smooth around 2200rpm and full throttle it holds 'til almost 6k. ...no different than any other auto car I've driven
3) if it isnt manual valve body, is there any harm in shifting manually? ...especially downshifting?
TIA

If it had a manual valve body there would be no automatic upshifts. It would take off in whichever gear was selected. There is no harm in driving it in the overdrive range and letting it shift out on it's own.
