Default Well I finally caved in and did it....

Well I finally got a stall guys ended up picking one up from someone here locally slightly used for under 400 bucks. It's an fti billet 3600 with a 2.2 str so hopefully it will drive well on the street and put up some good numbers with my ls6 swap I've got all the bolt ons so I figured the stall is the only thing I've left out lol

You will not be disapointed in the fti converter. I really like mine. I have had it in about a week now. The lock up on it is harsh but hardly noticable now that I got lock up tuned out unless it's in OD.

thanks guys I was actually going to ask about that I heard fti converters tend to lock up a little harder because they have no springs inside them? I could be way off but I thought I remember reading that somewhere? The car is a DD so I just hope i Didnt go a little too far by getting a 3600 for everyday driving.

I drove mine home 400 miles after the install and have put 200 on it since daily driving it. With a tune it's like stock unless you get on it. I lost a little mileage though. Mainly because I can't resist the urge to floor it.

I shut the cutout and my old lady couldn't even tell my car had an SS4000, even on her first time driving it for herself. It's not that bad

Thanks steve I think it wu be fine for the street.. Does anyone have any insight to the lack of springs for the lockup inside the fti? Not that it makes a difference I'm just curious. Also does anyone know what thread size the converter bolts are the fti doesn't have them and I'm not using the shitty factory bolts.

I had my lockup tuned to be firmer feeling. I like it a lot better when it has a solid feel, almost like another shift.

I agree Steve, I like that "feel" as well. When I build my units I set them up so that lock-up is quick and firm when it applies. I believe that it helps the converter clutch live long term. The only concern I've seen is that with a rowdy combination it can be detrimental to the input shaft, meaning I've seen a few break over the years. I don't set the 298mm / LT units up that way as the input shaft diameter is much smaller.

One other thing I recommend for guys with big converters in street rigs is to have the lock up tuned to occur somewhere in the 48 - 53 mph range depending on the combination. In my opinion it provides for much better overall driveability.

thanks for the reply gill so in your opinion its just a bolt on ls6 swap car with a 245mm 3600 stall can I leave the lockup around 40 and just firm it up a bit or should it be moved up

Honestly, I kinda hate my low 40s lockup. Even with 3.73s, when it locks at 42 or whatever it puts the motor at like 1500 rpms or so. And when you have a cam it's likely to have some bucking down there with a high load (overdrive gear). Remember, aftermarket cams are less efficient then stock cams in those low rpm regions. So keep that in mind as you are modding.

I like my FTI converter even though mine is a little 2800. Drives great. Lockup is good. I dont think its harsh at all when it locks up. Feels just right to be honest. I have my lockup set at 52mph. I hated having a stock lock up speed. In the city it would be locking and un locking all the time.
