Need help now! 4L60E wont go into any gear!
I just swapped out the trans out on my 2000 Sonoma with one out of a 2001 s-10 that was working just fine a few months ago. Before installing it I replaced the filter, cleaned it up and put the pan back on. I installed the trans and filled it with 5 quarts and then started the truck up to continue filling it and heard the TC ticking for about a minute then it went away as we added fluid. So I topped off the trans and it wont go into any gear. I cant tell if its in P or N but it wont do anything at all. Any Ideas? I need to use it for work tomorrow and it doesnt work!!!

it went in the two steps when installing it and I bolted up the bellhousing first and then bolted on the TC which was about 1/4" from flexplate and then the TC bolts pulled it to the flexplate. So theres nothing else it could be?

I ran into this problem once myself. I was lucky and discovered my mistake before the trans was installed though.
I grabbed these images from another post. The first image is the early style and the second is the later (Gen-III and up) style. Both types can have the bolt-on bellhousing. When you pull it back out, compare the input shafts of the old and new trans.

I used the same converter as it had in the donor truck. I went ahead and called the place I got it from and they will be taking it back and refunding my money tomorrow. I pulled it back out and installed the original one back in till it really takes a dump.

Well, I took it out and removed the converter to see if there was any visible damage to the pump and sure enough, there were several pieces of broken metal in there. :-( Oh well, at least I got my money back. Thanks for the help guys and thanks for being right.
