Default New converter Long trip No Tranny Cooler Question

Just put in a 3200 Vig. I haven't put a transmision cooler on yet. I have about a 400 mile round trip this weekend to get my car tuned. Will I be okay if I take it easy for this trip as well as a few dyno runs, or do I need to find some time to put a cooler on it?

I would install the cooler first, I believe the Vigilante is a small converter 9", it will create alot of heat, and therefore increased transmission fluid temperature. The stock setup runs at 190 to 210, and that's with an 11 inch converter.

If it's highway driving with the converter locked up it will probably be OK. Unlocked is where it will generate the heat.

However, a B&M cooler is only around $40 and is very cheap insurance.

I believe bands and clutches begin to melt at 240 degrees, just food for thought. If you got caught in stop-n-go traffic it might be a bad idea...

Ok, well most of my driving time will be on the interstate, but I do have the possibility of running into some heavy traffic. I'll go buy one and install it before I head out. It's not worth the risk. Thanks guys.

The highway wont hurt you, But the dyno runs wont be good for you. Im sure many people have ran a converter w/o a cooler but why risk it.
