Vibration!!!!!
Hey guys, here is my problem. I just completed? an LS3 swap in my 72 camaro. I have a pretty bad vibration. Its a tight vibration , if that makes sense. Anyway im running a 2004r and the driveshaft has some shake in it if you grab it and try to move it around. When i bought the tranny , i noticed the tailshaft was extremely loose. I called the shop that built it and they said it was normal for the 2004r to be this way and that the yoke fits in a bushing that keeps the tail shaft in position. i use the original powerglide yoke and found a driveshaft out of a astrovan ( junk yard find that was the right length ). Anybody have some knowledge on these trannies that might be able to tell me if this is my problem and maybe a fix. thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS !!

The 200-4R does have a lot of slack in the output shaft. The driveshaft yoke is what keeps the output shaft concentric. If you have a magnetic base dial indicator you can check the runout of the driveshaft and ensure that it's not bent.

A more ideas ? Anyone know how much play the driveshaft yoke should have in a 2004r? Even though the splines are the same on the th350, powerglide, and 2004r, should i be using a specific 2004r drive shaft yoke to take the play out of the yoke bushing. Thanks

Its very smooth in park. motor runs though clean. i used a hughs conversion flywheel with the spacer for the convertor snout.the spline engagement yoke to tranny is too much, if anything, id like a 1/4 inch less. i did use the wrong rear u joint in the rear. the cups are the right size on both ends, but in my ignorance, i didnt realize the measurements for the diff. yoke are suppose to be inner measurement for the locks. i just centered the u- joint in the diff. yoke and tightened it down .

Suggest you do 2 things B4 you find the shaft sticking thru the floor...
Don't drive it til you get the right joint[s].
Don't over tighten the u-bolts. You WILL crush the cups to an out of round condition and cause VERY short joint life... [Not to mention vibrations]
Furthermore, if the shaft it too long, you stand a good chance of tearing up the trans, and shoving the converter into the thrust brgs in the engine...

Ol, gezzer, how long is too long on the drive shaft ? I have about 3/4 to 1 inch of movement in the driveshaft before bolting it up. i didnt over tighten the u-joint, but am concerned about it. it just gets confusing w the different ways the u-joints are measured. Anyone know what u-joint it would take to convert a 72 8.5 10 bolt in a camaro to a 92 astrovan driveshaft ?

hey man check this out. i had a 1989 silverado at one time. Was my first truck. Anyways, i had someone change my u-joints. He had tightened the u-joint in the rear and forgot to add the clips. Geuss what happined?.. Drivin along it slung one cap off, yoke bounced around inside the rear end and beat my trans out from under the truck. All within a few seconds of coming loose. Imagine WOT or heavy drivin! Wouldnt have been pretty. It ended up twisting the trans under the truck and broke completely lose of the motor. Almost stopped the truck in its tracks.
Anyways, story is... please get the correct u-joint!
