Default th400 dd questions

looking in to swapping to a th400. i see a lot of info on install. but not dd how would it be to dd a th400. looking in to the hurst quarter stick shifter also cuz i will going rmvb at the end. the car will end up being a weekend street/strip car, but will have to daily drive the car for a while before that. so what would i expect. i have 323 gears which i wont be changing till i park the car for weekend use. i will be running a 28 tall tire. how would my high way driving fuel economy be with this setup. i don't drive high way much maybe 2 times a week 30 to 45 min trips to beach or bar. any input would be appreciated

going with the th400 cuz I'm building a 6.0 with 350shot so ill need it in the long run...

thanks in advanced

3.23's with 28's wouldn't be too bad for limited driving but it will get old on long drives.

My recommendation would be a 4L80E
Strength of a TH400 with overdrive, and price wise with transbrake, etc, it's not much more.

Why do you need/want a RVMB for a street/strip car?

You could get a feel for it by leaving your car in 3rd (if its an a4) cause you're high gear with the TH400 is the same 1:1 ratio as your current 3rd gear, so if you can stand that, you can stand the th400. I want to swap my m6 for one in the future so sometimes I'll leave mine in 4th to see if it would drive me crazy or not.

well its not going to be a full blown track car, but it will be leaning that rout. its not going to be a dd any more mosty track. will like to take it to the beach meets hangouts from time to time.

well that iv been doing that for a while. after i rebuilt my trans and put the yank SS 3600 and the works. my car wouldn't lock up on 4th due to tuning I'm guessing so i would always drive it on 3rd, didn't seem too bad. my thing is that i see the old school cars with them th400s and the stalls seem alot looser than the ones on the 4l60s. even tho i will be getting a nitrous stall don't know if that would make any difference...

price of the 4l80 just the unit is expensive plus rebuild and all the goodies way to much for my budget. i have a basically fully built 4l60 it has ss3600 stall billet servo pistons planetary borg warner clutches and monster sun shell. its supposed to hold some good power but i know its not going to hold a 200 out the gate and 100 down the line

With a th400, the converter doesn't lock up. So that will be different also

Most of my driving is around town to and from work type stuff, so I'm not gonna mind it when the day comes that I put one in. I'm gonna love it at the track though!

i have a th400 with a 28inch tall tire and 3.73 with 3600 nitrous stall. its not to bad to me and i do dd mines when the weather is good and i have been on a couple of hr one way trips so guess it really depends on what ur tolerance is

i got pretty good tolerance. we will see i might go with th350. i have to do a lil more research. they told me that with the th350 the car will leave the line more violent and u can make the th350 hold some good power too.

undecided both trannys should be the same dd wise tho right ?

yes but iv been told that the th400 can hold a little more abuse than the th350 with less upgrades so in return cheaper price. And yes both are the same dd wise too

Ok thanks ill be going with the th350 and if at the long run it don't hold will have to change over. for now I'm full bolt on with 150shot it should hold up good. I'm getting a pretty good deal on one locally for 200 and the rebuild with shift kit is bout 130. all ill be missing would be the converter plus the modding in my x member.
