Thumbs up 3200 Vigi to 4200 YTP swap impressions

Ok, so I picked up my car from Speed Inc. and the only things I had done to the car were the new Yank TP4200 and a Battery relocation kit.

Well, the car is a bit looser than the 3200 Vigi that I had before, but I've driven on it for 2 days and I'm already used to it. Not bad at all with 3.73s.

So, I'm coming home from the shop and I hit the toll both. I figured. what the hell, I'm sure I'll have no traction at all, but let's do it. I paid the toll and the gate rose. I went about 5mph and nailed it. It spun hard for about a half second and grabbed! This car launched HARD AS HELL! The 2nd gear shift threw the car forward and started pulling fiercely! 2-3 was ridiculously strong. I couldn't believe it! The topend was sick! I started laughing out loud like a little kid.

After playing with it for a few days here's the comparison

Launch: Vigi- Came out HARD with a wicked thrust.

Yank- Comes out just as hard, but the car moves faster, more efficiently. Weird. I really didn't loose much traction, thankfully.

Midrange/Topend: Vigi- Kind of flat and boring, after the launch it fell flat.

Yank- The topend is unbelievably better. The rpms crawl while the speedo flys. I can't believe how much harder the car pulls now. Thanks YANK and Larry @ Speed Inc.! If you guys have any questions let em' rip.

Thumbs up

Nice, I picked up three tenths from switching to a YPT4400 from a VIG3600, with no other changes.

Your discription of the difference is right on...

Enjoy your converter.

Hey, this is Fernando. I met you in Orland I believe at Walgreens a little while back. How's the car running? Did you get it tuned?

Yes, that was me. I leaned it out a little and got the O2s around .900. Still need to get it on a dyno w/a wide band.

Sure, it just takes a little getting used to. Coming from a Vigi 3200, driviability wasn't too much different. The performance outweighs any differences.

Nice... I have been thinking about changing out verters. I agree with you that the topend on a Vig is boring. I would like to see what the difference would be.

Running a Vigi 3600 alone should get you quite a bit better than a 12.3. I'd work on your suspension and traction before taking the step up. You won't see the gains with out traction.

I agree completely... I know that I need to have more traction before add more power... or get a verter that hits any harder then this one. I am still on a 10 bolt I have a set of 315 BFG's that I am going to try. I had the 245's last season.

Yeah, that's tough. I knew that traction was the key with these cars. That's why my first mods were SFCs, tubular kmember and arms, LCAs, and adjustable Strange shocks. After that I got my TSP lid and Corsa catback because I couldn't stand the stock sound. Ha.

If possible, could you please post any timeslip differences with just the converter swap (Vig3200-->YTP4200)? I'd like to see the difference alone, with no other changes in suspension. Thanks!

This weather sucks, but I've changed more than the converter since last week so my times will be inaccurate toward the swap gains. I've heard that 3 tenths is normal more or less.

I would like to see that too. Having just swapped a SS4000 (Yank) in place of my old Vig3600,i am waiting (not too patiently) for the track to open April 4th. And my only mod with the swap is that the trans was gone through. Found nothing wrong inside just freshened for mileage. I want to see my timeslips , They both drive sooo much differently. It should be interesting.

Good luck,And please post your new set-up and times.
Dave

Awesome write-up! Thanks for the info, I've been considering swapping my Vig 3200 for a YPT4200 one of these days as well. Let's see those timeslips!
