The -3 is a "full manual" kit that also uses a vacuum modulator. I do not recommend this kit for the street, unless you have built the unit to handle more horsepower from the start. The HD2 is much better for a stock unit. I offer a modified HD2 kit that will give you smooth part throttle shifts and quicker WOT shifts than the standard HD2, along with other updates such as Viton D-rings for the Corvette servo, Torlon checkballs, EPC solenoid filter, & more if needed.

HD2 seems to be the go to shift kit for these trannies from what I've seen. My built unit has one as do most others. Some builders will modify the HD2 some but generally agree it's a good kit for the money.

Holds 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to any speed. Backshifts to 3rd, 2nd and 1st by moving the lever. 1998 and up, if vehicle has torque management this kit will not make hard shifts.
I don't get why the mention this...doesn't the stock 4L60/65 do this anyway?

If you move it to 3 it goes to 3rd and holds that to any speed.

If you move it to 2 it goes to 2nd and holds that to any speed.

If you move it to 1 goes to 1st and holds that to any speed.

So what benefit does this actually do in terms of how the transmission holds the gears as selected by the shifter?

Is this the case with the 4L60E and not the 4L65E?

My 65E holds any gear as long as the shifter is in that # and will downshift to that gear no matter what speed (tuned of course). I've bounced off the revlimiter in 1st because I forgot to move it to 2

Rev limiter is not what we are talking about. Go 80mph and pull it down in 1st. Bet it doesn't go to first

WHAT!!! That really answered the question. If your transmission will go back to first at any speed, and you do not have the "manual one valve" from TransGo, then somehow the factory "manual one valve" is not working as it should. GM has a built in "fail safe" in all of their transmissions that does not allow for "back to first at higher speeds", or the ability to hold first gear to higher or slightly higher than the WOT shift point. Second and third gears do not have the "fail safe" feature. GM could have done something different here, and since I cannot see the "manual one valve" in your valve body or other possible changes in the valve body, I can't state for sure that GM has the "fail safe" setup in your transmission. I have never seen a GM unit without this "fail safe", but there are always exceptions.
