Welcome to the forum.

There are several reputable manufacturers. Yank and Vigilante being 2 of the highest rated ones.

I'm going with a Yank SS3600 personally and 3.73 gears.

Welcome, as stated Yank and Vigilante are great. I'm upgrading to a Yank 4000 soon. I had a PTC 3600 that worked flawlessly for 70k + miles but want to give Yank a try. Really depends on what kind of performance you want from your car but somewhere in the 3200-4000 range is most common and makes a hell of a diffrence in et at the track.

I've heard of a few flexplates cracking but myself personally have never had an issue with the flexplate. Also, get a good aftermarket trans cooler.

I have been going back and forth between Yank and Circle D. Chris at Circle D is a great guy to deal with, so are the people at Yank.

Correct me if I'm wrong but for a nitrous car wouldn't you want a tight converter and short (numerically higher) rear gear? Maybe thats if your spraying hard off the line... I've always wondered about this since I get so many various opinions on what works well. One of our ex-technicians used to do nothing but race F bodys and said loose converters make a stock car faster but in the end once your making good power all they do is create heat and shred the trans.

Good thing you got rid of that technician. A good stall converter will get you to your desired powerband and keep you there with modified shift extentions. It is true that a stall convertor for a NOS car will be tighter than a stall made for a NA car. But they are completely different performance wise.

No, it's not true.

Not from what I've seen and read. The car gets up into the power band much quicker.

I'm not an expert on stalls, but I do know they help all around for racing.
