Default 4l60e selector rod/shaft removal question

This rod that the the linkage connects to which goes into the case.. its the rod on the driver side of the case that the PRND sensor slides over (on truck transmissions)... can that shaft be remvoed, or is it an assembled part that cannot be removed. If it can be removed, does it unscrew? whats the skinny? looking to remove it and install a shorter one, or cut and shorten mine (engine swap)
thanks
clint

Loosen the nut that holds the rooster comb on the shaft and it will come out.
Also remove the clip right inside the case.

yep, I will now have 2 scars from 2 different 4l60e's.... last scar was on my elbow when I was installing a shift kit and the shaft at the pump was siezed... used a pair of needle nose pliers, grabed the nipple, pulled, slipped and caught the back of the case . This scar was when I was installing the c-clip looking retainer on the shaft... It didnt dawn on me to use a wrench to cup it and press it on, it also diddnt dawn on me that the damn thing would roll right off and my finger go forcefully into the case SOB.

Yep, remvoed the nut, and was able to pull the shaft out 1/4 way and it got stuck... a few dozen hits with a hammer (with the nut on the end of the shaft on the outside end) i was able to remove it... dont know why but it seemed to have a small knurn? wierd. None the less, the new one went in like butter... Didnt replace the sleeve as I didnt think to grab my seal puller... but I will replace it since the shaft came with one

Thanks for the info fellas

gonna have to do this myself. they sent me a built trans but it had the truck shift rod. Not that it matters cause I still gotta get a converter first. I'll post pics when I'm done.
