Default Will a 4L60E work without the gear selector plugged in?

1999 4L60E with deep pan from a Silverado behind a '99 LR4 (4.8).

Okay, well, trying to figure out if I have "BIG" issues, or if it's just a simple problem.

I forgot to put on the gear selector module thingy. Will the tranny work without this? I'm scared this tranny is junk...but it might be just this thing???

I figured that it would at least spin the tires over, but maybe not shift. I mean I'm moving the shifter selector arm - wouldn't that change the gears??

TIA
