Default 4L60E Rebuild

I have been reading old threads for a few days now so I figured I would just post a new thread with some questions.
At the track last weekend, my tranny started slipping pretty bad. I banged off the rev limited a couple of times during the 2-3 shifts. Logs show it was slipping elsewhere as well. I pulled the dipstick and the fluid smelled burnt.
I would like to do a mild rebuild: new 3-4 clutches, beast shell and shift kit.
1. Am I better off starting with a working tranny? Or re-build what i have? I am afraid the one I have will require a total rebuild.
2. Any other parts I should look to upgrade while its apart? Input shaft, aervos

*servos, etc.? I would love to do a total rebuild but am on a tight budget.

The car makes about 360 to the wheels and is raced competitively. I also spray a 75 shot occasionally to hit an index.
Thanks in advance.

There are several things you can do to upgrade the trans and the parts themselves arent that bad of prices. Problem is special tools if you plan to do it yourself. Since you race it, you will probably want to upgrade a lot of parts, even though your engine isnt a big hp monster.

1. working trans is up to, I say how much down time do you want? If the fluid smells burnt, likely some clutches went and all that contamination is everywhere. Yes, full rebuild.
2. You should replace the converter anyways, nows the time to pick a stall if you havent already. Hi energy clutches, hi energy 2-4 band, vette servo, beast sunshell, and consider replacing bearings and bushings. Valve body gets interesting. You can do a HD2 kit, or upgrade a couple valves and increase the line pressure for essentially the same feel. Theres even more when you get in the mess of it. Good luck with your project!

Thanks for the input.
Are you saying the converter may be shot? It's got a precision industries vigilante converter in it already. I was hoping not to have to get it rebuilt but I will if it is necessary.
I think i will probably start with a working trans since I found one for $300. I'm really trying to fix the most common failure points to make it last for awhile at my power level.

It has contaminated fluid in it. Even though you can drain some out and it would still be functional, its like rebuilding the trans and putting the dirty pan back on.

I'll have to give you guys a call. I was looking at some of the re-build kits online and they look pretty good.

I pulled the pan last night and it doesn't look as bad as I thought it might be. The fluid had a very slight burnt odor and there was some clutch dust that accumulated in the pan. After I decide on a re-build kit, I will probably just re-build the one I have.
