Default tans wont take gear. Whats Wrong!

So i was pulling my 2001 trans am out of the shop and i was having to back up and pull forward in small amounts to get out. I did this 5 or 6 times and had no trouble. Then i was going from drive to reverse and and nothing was there. the transmisson wont pull in drive or reverse and wont hold inself in park. What happened? i checked the shifter cable and it seemed to still be work, what else could it be?

Check the linkage first. Sometimes the plastic grommit falls apart and comes off the arm on trans.Even if it had a bad pump it would still hold park.

If it wont move or hold itself in park I would suspect a linkage internal or external issue as the other other thing would be the rear end that could cause what you are describing the wont hold in park being key.
