Default Please help...Broke 4L60E

2002 Camaro SS with 28k miles, Stock minus muffler delete and SLP intake. Went out for car club cruise, All was well. On the way home made a turn on to my road and accelerated about half throttle and manually shifted from first to second...Just as I shifted I heard a LOUD snap under the car and I no longer had a tranny. I do not have any gear except park, No reverse, nothing just park, With the car started and in any gear R-N-OD-D-2-1 it does not move but you can hear a not so normal sound in the transmission.. I have taken it out and both shafts are intact and nothing that I can see is broken or bad. I am not a tranny guy but am a mechanic but nothing sticks out. Would the input sprag do this? I have searched this forum and it seems as everyone else had reverse when things broke so I am lost. Was hoping it would be obvious when I tore her down but it is not..Can take pics if it helps but anything anyone can come up with would be great..Thanks

It has no metal pieces anywhere and the oil is clean. I guess I will pull the pump apart tomorrow to check inside of her since I did not check for pressure before pulling it out.

That's interesting. Usually when the sunshell breaks like that, you still will have 1st and 3rd. It's 2nd, 4th, and reverse that fail.

I have the same symptoms of your tranny, no metal in the oil but it is burnt. No gears except park and it makes a weird sound too lol. I havent pulled it but it has 167xxx miles so it was time i guess.

Ya I would say so with that amount of mileage. Ya my oil is clean as well since all it did was strip out the splines and it did not take but to do that. I will replace the shell, flush the converter and put a new filter in her..Good luck with yours

My 4L60E transmission in my 2000 GMC sierra just lost reverse. Pretty sure the rear drum is chipped. but could also be a broken sunshell. will find out when I pull the trans soon.

@Quick Stop do you have 2nd and/or 4th? If you don't it means you popped the sunshell.
