Default converter question

before you say search, i have read and researched for days. Just bear with me and respond if you will.

2000 camaro, a4, 3.42 gear. Cam, ls6 intake, exhaust, tune.

Looking at the ss4000 stall and the pt4000 stall. I will never run nitrous or any power adder. I may eventually go to 3.73 gear but no lower. Mostly running 1/8 mile passes. Car will be driven on the street a lot.

To get the MOST power out of the hole and best 60', should I go with the pt or the ss? The ss has a stall torque ratio of 2.6 vs 2.2 on the pt so I would assume I would want an ss.

But I dont see why so many people claim the pt to be a "looser" converter when the str is that much lower.

Which will work best for me as far as 60', and daily driving?

thanks!

I'll second FTI, mine is getting put in within the next 2 weeks. Yank is good if you don't need a custom job and some people don't, Yank is good for most applications but FTI can make something exactly for what you want/need.

I'm sure if that were true Greg would have made it right immediately. They come with a 3 year warranty and a free restall/cut and clean. His customer service and quality are top notch.

I had a pt3600 in my 4l60e before it let go and the pt was very streetable, I put it in when I was naturally asperated then even after I installed a procharger it felt about the same, I had no issues with it what so ever, it was a very friendly stall but when you foot braked or launched you felt the difference, either the ss or the pt line you really can't go wrong, people are pulling off some fast 60 foots with both. If you are interested I still have my pt3600 its up for sale, it had a total of 100 miles on it before I lost 2 and majority of 3 gear. It has been inspected and is a badass converter, pm me if you want it.

You got it right. If your not running nitros your better off with a PT because your not gonna be dropping as much rpm between gear shifts. And staying in your powerband is the way to go. I've been running one for years and it's great at the track.
