Default Locked Converter on Dyno

Is it bad for the converter? I want to do a few runs to see how much HP I am losing.

I picked up 30hp doing that. I hear it wears out the convertor faster, but I'm not sure by how much. I've been locking it up in 3rd at the track for years with no problems.

it is only bad if you run a cheap paper type convertor (like a stock unit or one that is similarly built like stock). the only ones to hurt a unit on the dyno was a Midwest convertor, that wasnt built with strong clutches. your VIg 2800 will be fine.

Ed are your times with N2O or N/A? I have almost exactly the same set up as you and I haven't got a chance to go to the track yet.

Those times are with a 100 shot on Nittos spinning. With my ET Streets, I think I can hit low 11's

Sounds like that would kill the TC @ the track.

What does your rpm's drop to?

locking the convertor on a nitrous run is pretty darn aggressive. make sure you have strong kevlar clutches in that unit!

how exactly do you lock the verter in 3rd gear? And then have it unlock in OD as to not say blow the 3-4 on highway aggressive driving. any url's for setting this up?

i assume at a rpm point you lockup but you definitely dont want to shift to 4th locked up right?

I don't think that it's going to matter much whether the converter is locked or not when hitting the 3-4 shift at WOT.

WOT 3-4 shifts are clutch pack killers regardless, IMO.

the dyno tech uses a scan tool to override the computer and lock the converter....OR you can install youro own switch...

That is what I am worried about, but I want to know what my HP is without the slippage of the TC.

It does throw an SES, and the car won't lock on its own for a while.
