Default How many people manually upshift their a4?

I miss manually rachet shifting (b&m megashifter in my old car) my a4 but I don't want to hack up my console for an aftermarket shifter. I know downshifting is a no no. I am curious how many people manually upshift their cars. My trans & motor are fine & I am about to receive my pcm back from frost. Ofcourse w/o missing shifts &/or leaving parts on the ground. Lol.

I do, on occasion, when I'm feeling really groovy, like on a Friday on my way home from work, or on a beautiful evening drive around town when the cops are absent and I can open the car up and enjoy it. I even installed a factory Trans Am shifter for this very purpose, since I didn't like the feel of doing this with the Camaro shifter.

I did occasionally. Not a problem for the 4l60e at all.

By the way, downshifting from OD to 3rd is generally OK as long as you're on the throttle when you do it.

I do it fairly often when I feel like it. Downshifting is not a problem either as long as you rev match. I wish there was a good aftermarket shifter for our cars that would fit under and work well with the stock console.

I'd like one with a Hurst t-handle coming out of a leather boot in the stock console.

I'm assuming you all have shift kits? lol mine shifts insanely slow when I do it manually so its not even really fun or beneficial at all. Also when I put in 1 or 2 and step on it semi hard it spins like crazy and wants to get all side ways and stuff. Only good for donuts and burnouts. Its almost like it has hidden power that it only tries to put to the ground when I'm in 1 or 2 rather than D.

I frequently manually upshifted AND downshifted my TA. Never heard any good reason not to. Of course, an M6 would eliminate the issue.

Yep, Transgo. Manual shift 1-2 is instantaneous; 2-3 very slight delay but the shift itself is quick. You're right: stock A4 shift programming is horrible.

I learned my lesson and did a 6 speed swap but back in the day, I usually always had to manually shift 1-2 cuz the damn thing would spin out hard in 1st and shift to second and bog down and leave me looking like an idiot. I had to slam the rev limiter a few times and then shift to second to make it go anywhere. It went boom and now I have complete control over all my shifts

I mated up a Hurst T-handle with roll control, F-body manual thread pattern, to an aluminum shift **** adapter from ws6store. Install is pretty straight forward, this thread has a write up:

Ok, you just modified the stock shift lever. I was thinking of a true ratchet shifter fitting under the console with the leather boot and t-handle.

I've seen pictures of cars with them, but no write-ups... I also don't know how our cars would like a ratchet shifter without a manual valve body

The best way to do manual shifting in your car is to buy a transmission that is built with a manual valve body.

occasionally ill shift down to third to slow down a little or get my revs up to pass or just to get going quickly.

I was just looking to upshift once in a while when I wanted to get a bit agressive but not all of the time.
