Default Screwed Up Tranny

When I Put The My Car Into Gear It Doesn't Move Untill The Engine Reaches A Certin Temp Around 60 Degrees C. I've Been Told That It Just Thick Fuild Or That It Could Just Be The Seals. I Have Just Had The Tranny Serviced And Thought That It Might Fix It But It Didn't. I 'm Just Wondering Is This A Common Problem With High Km(i'm In Canada) Trannies And Is There A Fixes Without Having It Rebuilt. Its An Older Car With Very High Kilometers On It. I Don't Want It To Die But I Rather Not Have To Put The Money In To It Because A Rebuild Is Almost Worth More Than The Car.

Sorry It I Sound Like A Retard But I Know Nothing About Cars.
