Im going to need a tranny eventually.. What do you think the right combo for me would be? I have a MWC 9" with 3:89's in it, the build is a GT50-88 turbo, and for now im going to use the 5.7 stock crank, forged rods and pistons to get it going.. So, power for now will be prolly 800-900 but eventually the 390CI will go in down the road.

I would recommend our Stage 3 4L80E. It will easily handle your initial build and should be fine with your later combo as well. It has a billet input shaft and forward hub, so the major weak points are taken care and if you take care to do proper burnouts it will be fine at over 1000 HP/TQ.

Yes,
The crossmember needs to be changed. We stock them sometimes or drop ship. There are a couple of options. It depends on whether you need one with or without torque arm mount.

The burnout technique is critical on any transmission with a sprag (most).
With a 4L80E, if it's electronically controlled I recommend doing the burnout in 2nd gear. If it's a full manual setup I recommend 3rd.

The TQ arm i have is a chassis mounted, so nothing mounts to the trans.

My FLT 60E, i just set the line lock, do a burn out and go.. I just leave it in drive.

So, can u guys do a vacuum modulated 80e?

Yes,
We can do a vacuum modulated 4L80E. It add's $100 to the website price.

You would need the less expensive crossmember. They are about $175.

I would also like to add,
I have a Stage 2 Th400 with RMVB transbrake. This is usually a $1650 build plus shipping and has a wait but since we have this one on the shelf and already dyno'd and our current sale, it's $1550 shipped.

All of our units have a 6 month warranty, even when used for racing

I was posting the TH400 as a part of the sale ad, not necessarily for your car. The 1-3 gears of a TH400 are the same as a 4L80E but it has no overdrive and no lockup.

I prefer a 4L80E for a big power street/strip combo. The TH400 is more for the pure drag or weekend only combos.

Oh gotcha... so, can u shoot me a price for what i need minus the converter to drop it in? I like the vacuum modulated type, makes things simpler.. And a trans brake as well, when the times comes im prolly going to wish i would have had one put in from the get go.

Will the electronics be able to be commanded thru my stock ecu? I have EFILive to do everything with.

Yes, you can control the trans with the stock PCM. You can either do a segment swap or you can use our "Relay Mod". 98 PCMs are recommended for that mod since it allows the stock PCM to control the trans, works for 99s as well

Didn't know that about the burnout, I have just left my shifter in 3rd and let the trans shift from 1st to 2nd in the burnout.

It should be fine, the only concern is if the controller does a 3-2 downshift as you let off while the tires are still grabbing. It can shock the sprag.

I haven't forgotten about you, just haven't had a chance to talk to Rusty. We're playing catch up a bit from some specialty parts we finally got in for several builds, one ordered all the way back in May. So I've made the overdue orders the top priority. I think Rusty is in the same boat..
