Default Choosing a 4L80E.

I am going to be doing a LQ4 swap in the spring and want to go with a 4L80E. Are there certain years that are better than others?

It's my understanding that the pre-97 models have a stronger overdrive and I know that the cooler lines are both up front vs. the 97-ups being one in front and one in the back. Personally, I found a 94 4L80E locally for $200 and installed a trans-go HD2 into it. I plan on running it until something happens then will get with Jake's to get a level 2.

Ok thanks for the info. Do I still need an aftermarket controller to run a pre97 trans?
