Default Tranny cooler hot?

My tranny cooler (24k B&M) runs so hot you can't touch it, is that normal?

My tranny runs hot, I just want to make sure the cooler is working.

Also, any way to boost the 3-4 gears in the A4? (I need more staying power on the strip.) I want to get more out of the tranny.

first you really dont wanna shift to fourth at the track...second do you still have the tranny fluid going through the stock cooler in the radiator? If so your tranny temps are probably around 150 under normal driving for a 20-30 minute period like mine are...150 degrees is pretty hot but remember without one it would run well over 200 and even through the stock cooler it gets darn close to 200 if not over depending on long periods...now it takes 5-10 minutes for mine to even reach 100 degress.

Yeah, I guess I really want more 3rd gear.

My cooler is after my factory one. But I hit 200 easily. I seem to hit 220 pretty easily too. I question the gage though. Does your gage go to zero (100) when you turn the ignition on after sitting over night?

Mine refuses to go to zero (the water temp does.) It was 220 on the last drive, sat over night, and when I restarted in the morning, the gage only came back to 150 and stayed there. Then hit 200 after 20 mins of driving.

I just swapped out the connections between my tranny temp gage and water temp and guess what.... the tranny temp gage is f'd up. It read my water temps at 220. The other gage read my tranny temps at 160-170, so my tranny is fine, it's the gage that's gotta be returned. Suspect quality I guess.
