I ran a B+M deep aluminum pan for a long time. got tired of hitting it on speed bumps though. This pan came with a filter extension so I was able to use the stock trans filter with it.

Did it actually do anything to keep your transmission cooler?

People that have tried pans with 2+ quarts find they hang too low on F-body (and other cars) and hit things, potentially catastrophically.
A stock truck pan adds 1 quart and helps quite a bit with temps and slippage (pump sucking air) during hard acceleration; it also adds a convenient drain plug.
I found one vendor on ebay that sells an aluminum "deep" plan which adds 1 quart.
You just use a "deep" truck filter with these 1+ quart pans; no extender needed.
IMO, I would avoid any chrome plated oil pans - over time the chrome flakes off and the pan then leaks.

Some of the aftermarket deep pans are made of cast aluminum. I wouldn't use one. Hit it on something and it could crack open. Steel is the only way to go - especially the truck pan with a drain plug. Would love to have one of those!

After reading one of your posts about this pan I ordered one! Should be here tomorrow sometime! It looks like a quality piece in the pics.

I had a b&m that I never installed. I really dont need it and was worried about smacking it on a speed bump or whatever. I have the stock pan and its been all I need. If I ever change it I will go with a truck pan.

You can order the deep-aluminum pan from www.asaperformance.net or under their ebay name of abad71camaro. Or search ebay for:
"GM 700R4 Polished Aluminum Transmission Pan Deep 4L60E 4L65E"

It is currently $59.95 with free shipping. This was the ONLY ebay seller I found with the deep pan; everyone else is selling a similar-looking but standard capacity pan for around $40; I first bought a standard pan due to a deceptive description.

Just remember that you MUST install the deep (truck) filter with this pan.

Sorry, I do not know the GM part #. You could ask for the filter for a 2007 Trailblazer SS. Basically there are Vette, Shallow and Deep filters for the 4L60E; any local trans shop should have a bunch of them; just ask for the deep truck one.

When you install the pan, you will notice that the pan will firmly push up on the plastic spacers on the filter. If there appears to be a gap between the filter and pan, you might have the wrong filter.

Maybe I'm paranoid or just plain wrong, but one thing I didn't like with either aluminum pan I bought on ebay was the gasket. Both came with a soft rubber gasket that looks like it could get squeezed out. I always use a firm black fiber gasket. I tighten to 9 ft/lbs; note that these cast aluminum pans are supplied with allen-wrench bolts (5 or 6mm).

If you want to go mail order, here is the filter:

Here is the fiber gasket:

Good info here. The best stuff (from me of course!) is in posts 17, 20 & 21.

Not noted, the Derale cooling pans use the standard depth filters. On my (two) Firebirds, I never hit the pans on the ground.

I run a steel derale on the camaro and an aluminum TCI on the yukon. Both have been problem free.
