Default Stock 4L80E vs Built 4L60E........how much stronger is the 4L80E....?

I just got my car back...brand new AES 390ci. Makes around 400 RWHP. 10.8:1 cr engine built for boost. Getting a TT kit later this year, but for now

My 4L60E is not gonna last long. I can buy stock 4L80E trannys around here everywhere.

I can have it gone through to make sure it gets a basic rebuild kit done to it.

......Will that 4L80E hold 600 RWHP from a 200 shot I want to put on it?
......Will it last at least 6 months if I spray it about twice a week on the highway.....roll runs only......NO drag racing from a dig.?

i think you should get a 4l80e & a decent shift kit and you'll be fine. i'll let the pros chime in though, I may be wrong.

Yea, I heard about the shift kit.......what about any type of rebuild kit that's just a little bit better then the basic rebuild kit?

Maybe even upgrade a couple pieces that are the ones that are prone to failing first.....

How about a converter for the 4L80E....what do they run price wise......?

are you going to be using the 4l80 for the TT build? if so why not have it built right the first time and be done with it?

Money for now is the issue. Wen I do the TT set up later this year I should have $4,000 to just get a Jakes fully built 4L80E. Right now, I just need something better than this 2002 4L60E that's been rebuilt 4 times. Plus, I need something that will handle 600 RWHP easily until the TT kit goes in.

oh ok. i would get a 4l80 and rebuild it and a good shift kit then, the main problem you see bc of the spray is the input shaft. most people want to run a billet shaft with the spray. ill be running 150shot with the stock shaft.

80e converters are more pricey than 60e converters.

How much is a billet $$ is a input shaft?

So shift kit + billet input shaft.....and I'm all good to go with about 600 RWHP on spray?

If I do the billet input shaft is the next weak link in the tranny plenty strong for 600 RWHP on spray?

by the time you do rebuilt kit/shift kit/billet shaft/good stall. your not that far off from having a fully built unit. plus you have to add in labor for whatever shop does the work.

iv seen billet shafts go for 300-600

Well, my friend picked up a used 4L80E for $300. He'll sell it to me for $300.

If I get the billet input shaft and shift kit ill be under $1,000....$900 stall.....then Lashway can do the tranny swap. They've done 4L80E swaps in Fbodys.

I figure $2,500 for everything.

I just can't buy a $4-5,000 Jakes tranny yet, plus the $900 stall and labor for the swap. Over $6,000.

Just need something that'll hold up good for 6 months with 600 RWHP.

It will definitely hold that, my buddy has been running a stock 4l80e with the trans-go shift kit and a 3600 stall in his 95 TA for 2 years now, its a 383ci LT1 with full bolt ons, AI 200cc heads, custom cam, intake and a 200 shot! Hes went a best of 9.93 this past year with it no problems whatsoever! This will be his third season on it, I think he gave $300 for it too! He drives it to the track(45min. away) pulling a small trailer will his drag radials, some tools, and bicycle, it really turns some heads until he makes his first pass lol! Heres a link to a pass at the kyhosrepower shootout last fall which was like a hour and a half drive away!

Haha.....love that. Pulls a trailer to the track......LOL.......Too cool.

My 390ci on spray will have about that same power as he has I guess.

Yea, I'm gonna go 4L80E for sure. Talking to someone now about building it for me.

You can get away with a much lesser built trans when your boosted vs if your running spray.

Please report back how it feels, operates and how the install went.

Is it going to be electronically controlled or manual valve body where you have to up shift and downshift.....?
