Default new owner of 94 4L80 with some ?'s

I just got a 1994 4l80 trans and was wondering what upgrades would you guys recommend. It is going in a 64 chevy II with a TT 5.3, strange 9" w/3.13 gears and 28" tall tires. I am running mega squirt for engine and didn't know if a 94 4l80 needed a controller or not? mega squirt offers one if I need it.

Thanks for any suggestions

All 4L80E's require a controller to run them. Your Megasquirt should be able to handle that, though.

As far as upgrades go, dual feed the direct, rollerize the output shaft, rollerize the forward hub (Jake sells these pre-machined and ready to install), use a 34 element intermediate sprag, use good clutches and pay careful attention to tolerances (such as rear gear train end play), and some carefully selected shift calibrations and you're in good shape. The 80 is a very solid transmission and, when properly built, will handle a tremendous amount of power.

I have searched and read and now I am more confused then I was before. What converter do I run with a 1994 4l80 and a 2004 5.3? Do I use the 94 converter and a spacer or will a 2000 and up converter work with the 94 tranny? Any help would be great

you dont want to use the stock converter at your power level!

whoever you buy your new converter from will be able to answer your questions.

So you can use the newer converter, what about the flexplate. Do you need to go with a spacer or 6.0 flexplate. Thanks
