Default Trans vent tube

I'm getting ready to reinstall my tranny after a converter swap and when I pulled it out there was no vent tube hooked up. How critical is it that one be there or is it fine with just the metal tube that protrudes from the tranny? Thanks!

Vent tubes are there to insure that if for some reason they ventilate, it does not go directly on a heat source. The Hose allows you to redirect it to a safe area towards the ground. They can also increase the fording line of the transmission if setup properly.
