those who have installed trans go shift kit...
I'm in the middle of swapping my converter to a Yank SS 3600. I got the trans out and started installing my Trans Go HD2 shift kit. I was wondering if anyone could give me any feedback as to what the three different power levels feel like? I got it with the intention of solving my limiter shifting problem at the track. I go to the track once in a while not a lot and this is a car I drive every day. I'm trying to decide to use the FULL RACE level 3 parts or just go with the mid level. I don't want my car to be slamming into gears while calmly driving around downtown. Tranny is STOCK just doing the shift kit and converter. Motor is stock bolt on only. Thanks!

I have found the middle setting plenty firm with a SS3600; it was too firm with a 2400 stall.
Yes, drill the 3rd feed hole to at least the max listed for the HD2 kit. Many go even bigger to .110 or oven 1/8" (.125).
The Sonnax HD 2-3 shift valve reduces the load on the forward sprag when the shifter is in [D3], plus gives more fluid to the 3/4 clutch during the 2-3 shift. Highly recommended.

Valve not piston*** aside from the sonnax valve and installing the hd2 kit with no spacers on medium settings and drilling the bigger size holes, is there anything else? This is my first shot at any transmission work so any advice is great thanks.
I also should add that I don't have it all apart. So the part of the kit that is in the internals I am bypassing, but from what I've read that part isn't necessary for my application.

BTW - Here are some threads on the HD2 kit:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...m-70360-a.html
The first thread starts with clear images of the instructions.
Personally I don't install the "Gear Command" which is Step 5 on Page 2; IMHO, "gear command" will you accidentally downshift at any speed and overrev the engine.
Some people also install the Sonnax "Servo release check valve". With that you definitely drill the 3rd feel hole to .120 (or 1/8"). One builder told me he drills to .120 and skips the valve, but the valve is only $15 and Sonnax is making very good parts.
You are correct that the internal parts can be put aside for now. Not all builders are in favor of them anyway; that is a whole "nuther" topic you can skip for now.

So you guys think I should get a sonnax 2-3 hd shift valve, and a release check valve? I noticed that there were no screens in my hd2 kit. Should I get new ones of those as well?

update, never had time to get any of the sonnax parts. I just did all mid settings on the hd2 kit and drilled the separator plate to the max. It feels AWESOME with the converter. I didnt do the epc screen mod with the wire because it didnt fit and the directions made no sense... End result 1-2 isn't too hard part throttle but SLAMS wot, 2-3 seems like no change part throttle and somewhat agressive wot.

Congrats on getting the HD2 kit installed and working well!
Your explanation of the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts is exactly what I would expect. The 2-3 shift will never be as firm feeling, but I suspect it is still very quick.

At 60%+ throttle it feels pretty firm. Tires chirp 1-2 at 40%+ throttlel. I love it. Thanks again for your help Ted, I was having a hard time understanding how the 2nd accumulator fits all together with the spacers and replacement spring and called mrvedit up at 11:30 at night, LOL. Turns out you cant really compress it all into the housing you need to just set it on the separator (if trans it out and upside down like mine) and evenly tighten the 3 bolts that hold it in. It all squashed up in there.

And glad you got it all working.
