Default What would you do?

I currently have a built th400 by DRC transmissions running a 4.11 gear out back with a 5500 stall converter. This car (01 Z28) makes just under 500 rwhp. Im trying to get the car more streetable. Would it be worth switching to a T56 mag/4L80 or just work with what I got and change the stall and rear gears for highway use. Car rides pretty high in the rpm range at 55-60mph as you can imagine. I personally would like to put a t56 in it but Ive heard its a nightmare to convert back over. Thoughts?

Since you have an '01 PCM you can easily run a 4L60E and at your power level that is what I would recommend with a 3200-3600 stall. Just be sure to get a good one, e.g. from sponsors FLT, RPM, Performabuilt or Jake Performance.
Jake is closest to you - north of Dallas, TX.

60e will hold at that level built right and tuned right. Consider 80e though always great to be a safe step ahead.

Im in the same boat man, I change my mind daily T56, 4L80 or TH400. Sucks because I have a th400 and all the **** to put it in and I have a 4l80 core I could have built but I really want a T56 for mpgs on the street but its the most expensive option and with a track 2 miles away it would kinda suck. Then again I dont have a cage and dont plan on one so an auto is kind of pointless. The biggest hurdle for me is taking a chance on a 1500 dollar used t56 or biting the bullet on a new t56 mag but 2900 bucks ouchhhh. Ive been driving myself nuts for 2 months lol.
