m6 to a4 swap,guys with 4,600 stalls in daily drivers.help!
i have a 01 ta with heads,g5x2 cam, kooks, all the good stuff. ok...my car is a m6 and i was thinking of a swap to an a4 over the winter. i see alot of people wanting to swap to a m6 so parts should'nt be a problem. my car is a daily driver how would a 4,600rpm stall perform around town? how will it perform driving 70mi to work on the highway? is it loud? does the gas milage drop bad? does the idle get worse? will my car go faster in the 1/4 mile? what all parts would i need to do this? THANKS,for any help mike c.

that sound 's a little too big for the treet's, i suppose keeping your tranny nice and cool you should be ok.
my suggestion is probably get a 3600 stall or so if your going to be driving allot. but once again that's my opinion, wait for the other's

^^ first day after i got a TCI SSF 3500, which is too small for my engine power.
anyways. Say going up a hill 2700 min rpm to sustain 30mph, to go faster 3000rpm
once you hit lockup (40mph) in 4th my rpm's drop to like 1000rpm and its like the original converter.
its the 0-40mph that will kill your mpg, make you sound like your ripping it off the line every time, (i got a ticket for my loudness), and make it generally suck *** in the city.
if you stay over 40mph you probably won't even notice it till you romp on it.

It depends if you drive a lot in the city, if you only drive on the highway then you will hardly notice it because it will be locked. However if you do drive in the city you may think it is a bit much. I think I would try it out but I dont mind high stalls. KEEP IT COOL!

The question is what size cam/engine have you got in your car. No need to goto a big stall if you don't need it.
Although if you get a converter too small your engine wont work in it's proper power band.
Either way if you don't get it right it will be a pain in the *** to drive.
It's more about combination than anything else, you get this right and driving around with a big stall isn't much different to a small cammed car with a smaller stall.
The G5X2 is in the 236 range right and has a 112 LSA? (can't remember specs)
A cam that size in a 3500 lb car would be good for a 4000 to 4500 stall.

I think 4600 would be a little to much for a daily driver. I got 3200 and i thinks its just about perfect.

I would go with a Yank PT4200 or 4400 with your setup? What gears are you running? I'm sure your gas mileage will change, but how much I don't know for sure, that will also depend on your driving style. I have a PT4400 w/4.10 gears and cruising at 70mph on the hwy it sees a little over 2500 rpms, a little more than when my car was stock internal with 3.42's. If you want the best driveability then my advise would be to find the best tuner in your area, because tuning can make all the difference with a high stalled car.

Hey mike, what's up?
I have the PT4200 in my car and I still run the 3.23 gears. The converter is pretty darn loose, but I can live with it on a daily basis. Driving around town, my fuel economy suffered some, but the car manages to do pretty well on highway trips.
