Default Converter bolts

I am trying to get the stock allenwrench style converter bolts out. I have two of the three out but can not get the last one out. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it easier to get. If i keep up the way im going ill have it striped in no time.

Thanks

WEAR GLOVES!! I absolutely tore my right hand up because of these bolts. You are in a bad spot and they break loose suddenly. I scraped big pieces of my skin off. Took weeks to heal up.

Heat it with a propane torch to weaken the threadlocker. Focus all of the heat on the fastener not the flexplate.

Let it cool and spray it with liquid wrench or WD40 if that's all you have.

Make sure you are using a good hex key socket. Do not attempt to crank on the fastener unless it is firmly seated.

I have a couple of good cuts on my hand from the first two. I found out fast its better to wear gloves. I thought of using heat but i didnt know if it was ok to do on the flywheel.

on my 98 one of the 3 bolt holes was smaller than the other two...bottom line we used a air chisel to notch it and spin it out with some force btw you'll probably have to drill out/die grind out that hole to get the new bolt to fit through it.

good luck

Not trying to break it with an allen wrench, I hope. A 15mm wrench (I think), long one, worked well for me. Mine are allen bolts, as well.

I had the same problem last night. We kept working at it and one of my friends eventually got it off using a breaker bar made out of a few open/closed headed wrenches.

Mine really came out without too much grief. I just cranked it out by hand.Took all I had to get it out but it spun out.

1998 T/A N.IL car with 50k miles on it.

Definitely apply some heat to the fastener. You only need to get it to about 300* F to break down the thread locker. Heating the FlexPlate to 300* F will not affect it negatively. If you get much over 600* you'll start to affect the metal and could cause damage. No need to get it glowing red.

Yea i stiped one of mine had to use a grinder to get it off. Does it matter if i just use a normal bolt when i put my new converter in. This has to be the worst setup iveseen

I replaced mine with normal grade 8 bolts. When I took out my originals, we ended up drilling one of them using a snake drill. The bit still got crooked, and wrecked the flexplate.
