Default 4L80E tailhousing bushing play

How tight should the tailhousing bushing fit against the slip yoke?

I have a 4L80E from a 2003 Express van. The tailhousing bushing does not fit tight on the slip yoke. With both pieces removed (tailhousing and slip yoke) the slip yoke can slightly rock inside the tailhousing bushing. I have tested this with two different TH400/4L80E slip yokes, my old tailhousing bushing, and a new bushing in the rebuild kit, all with the same result.

Is this normal? Is there some sort of upgraded bushing that will support the slip yoke?

It has some clearance or it would burn up.

You also have to keep in mind the few thousandths clearance at the bushing will seem like more 2-3" away when you rock the yoke.

Thank for the info. The trans is back together and going back in the car with a new one piece driveshaft + trans slip yoke. Hopefully no more vibrations...
