Default 4L80 or 6L80 in 69' Skylark

Hi, I just picked up my 1st LS motor. 2006 LQ4 from a 3500 Savana Van. Anyone can direct me which tranny I should go with? 4L80 or 6L80 or any other suggestions? It's going into my 69' Skylark. I do know the 4L80 fits in the car like a glove but I do like the idea of 6 speed.

Your thoughts please..

6L80 might be a problem on the control side. Not sure if the 06 LQ4 has the right computer to handle the 6L80. My vote would be a 4L80, easier and cheaper.

There are likely a slew of problems using a 6l80E:
1. It probably will not fit without enlarging the tunnel.
2. You likely will need a $800 controller
3. IMO the gear ratios are not well suited to anything lighter than an SUV

4L80E are readily available in junk yards and are all basically the same, and with even a stock rebuild will easily handle 600+ HP. Several members here have pulled them out of mobile homes for well under $500.

Go with the 4L80E. Do your research and you will find that's it now possible to convert it to a 6 Speed with close ratio gearing and engine braking in all gears later on.

If you decide you like that idea, to save money later on choose TCM from company that offers the components, valve body, gear set, ect to do it.
