Default Budget 4L80E converter

Any suggestions for a 4L80E torque converter for about $500 or less? I am building a 408 stroker and want something that will be very driveable. I don't think I need a $1000 converter for my setup.

Circle-D has this. I'd be all over it but it has the wrong bolt pattern.

Any other vendors have something like this but with a 4L80E bolt pattern?

The problem is you need a decent sized lockup clutch in a combo making the power your 408 will make. You COULD use a non billet setup but the tune will be critical to converter life.
A billet cover would he recommended.

I see a lot of the aftermarket converters are 9.5" converters. Would something like an 11" converter give me a bigger lockup clutch?

An 11" converter would give you a factory sized lockup clutch. You could purchase a flexplate and run our 278 mm no problem. We rate them to 500 hp

I had one custom made to fit my LT1 flywheel and the 4l80e from Edge Racing for about $525. I've always used them for converters and I haven't had a problem yet. I street drive the car and bracket race.
