Default cleaning and power washing the transmission tips??

Is the plug above the pan on the case, the only connection I need to protect and cover if I want to power wash and clean the transmission? maybe even the tail hole?

Its really nasty and leaking, so I want to clean it up good to find where the leaks come from and to make it just another clean part going back on the car. I know to plug the coolant line holes, the electrical plug and tail.. anything else to cover and any tips for doing this without damaging it any?

I assume then that the trans is out of the car.
Besides the tailshaft and electrical connector, you should also seal up:
1. The area around the input shaft where the converter engages into the pump.
2. The vent line on the top of the trans.
3. The dipstick hole if the dipstick was removed.

It is best to install an old slip yoke into the tail to not only seal it from outside dirt but keep fluid from leaking out. An old TH350 yoke works perfectly and cheap from a junk yard or driveshaft shop.

ok on #1, the old converter is still installed, is there something else to in that area that you are referring to?

Yes the trans is out of the car and in the garage on my trans jack.

Im guessing a nice clean wipe around the areas to cover and then plastic bag the area and tape real good to seal.. or maybe rubber bands if there is something for the rubber band to hold on to.

I can reinstall the yoke/driveshaft back in when I go to clean so that can be covered.

other than that, just let it soak with degreaser and have at it with the power washer..

The old converter should seal that area just fine.
The electrical connector is well sealed from the inside anyway; I would cover it anyway. It it gets wet, use q-tips to clean/dry the contact afterwards.

You should be able to get the grease/dirt off, but the case will still look very tarnished.
