Default 08 4L60E freewheels in drive

My 08 4x4 5.3 will some times start to take off from a stop and freewheel like something broke! but if you manually pull the shifter in low it reengages and moves fine and then soon after if you shift back to drive its all fine until next time. Never sets a code , Never slips or had hard shifts, Once I just let it coast to a stop to see if it would reengage if you just left it in drive ,never did just made a light grinding sound. Some one told me one way clutch but why would it be different in manual low instead of drive ?

From your description it sounds like the forward sprag (clutch) is becoming intermittent. See this thread:
