Default New converter - street monster..

Hey guys-

My car is not a track car. Just not my thing, but I do enjoy having a quick car.

The car is not a daily driver either. It's just a pretty weather toy, but I would like it to be reliable.

Current mods:

Fast Toys Ram Air
LS1 Motorsports Lid
Ported TB
LS6 Intake
PowerBond UD Pulley
TR224 112LSA Cam
Texas Speed Stage 2.5 5.3L heads
XS Stainless Long Tubes..
Off Road Y
GMMG exhaust
Vigilante 2800 stall
Stock GM 3.42 rear end

So.. I'm going to be picking up a PTC converter. They're local and I've seen great things from their units..

I'm thinking about going 3800 or maybe even 4000..

Anyone think this is a bad idea for a street only vehicle?

I have a similar setup and do take my car to track 6-7 times a year. I currently have a Yank SS3600 and also have a 3.42 rear. Even though Yank is typically described as tighter than others on the street, it is too loose for me and my next converter will be in the 3000-3200 range.
I know that 80%+ of poster will disagree with me and like their 4000 stalls, but there you have my opinion which is really just a personal preference.

Now if I had a 3.73 rear I would likely be happy with the 3600 stall and indeed many other members here like their 4000 stall with their 3.73 rear.

Opinions are what I'm looking for, good to hear yours..

My Vig is a 2800, but it's "supposed" to be more like a 3200 from what I understand. I don't mind it one bit, so I sorta think I'll be able to handle the 3800..

4k all day, wouldn't hesitate. You'll like your PTC unit.

I just put a built 4l60e and ptc 4500 in my bolt on trans am and I love it. It is a hair loose even with the 4.10's but wot makes up for any part throttle looseness, it moves damn good. From a dead stop it will flash to about 5000 and the shift extension is around 5600-5800 with the trans shifting at 6200.

I had a ss3600 in my last camaro with 3.42's and that was a pretty tight setup very easy to drive around town. If this car is a weekend cruiser like you said I think 4000 min. I talked to lane over there, he was real helpful.
