Default Torque converter shift extension

In regards to peak torque/power, where in the RPM range do you want your shift extension to be for best acceleration?

Just looked at my dyno graph and I'm making peak torque around 4800 and power around 6200. I'm shifting at 6600 and the converter drops to ~4200 rpm after each shift. Where do I want to be as I don't want to go with too big of a stall and "overshoot" my power curve.

What size/str converter are you currently running? For your combo id want a 5k or so extension. Makes a hell of a difference too.

Not sure on the STR, but it's a 2800 unit.

That was before I added a bunch of power to the engine so technically it should be slightly more.

So if I want to be at ~5k then I need a stall with about 800 more rpm, so something like a 3600?

I had the same questions you did so I made this...https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...eak-torqe.html

Even though I chose a 4k stall this time I'm still not sure what the answers should be for you and I. I haven't been to the track yet either to compare my old ss3600 vs the new cd-1e 4k.

Hell yeah man I just have to get it to the track and compare with the old ss3600. I'm really curious how it will 60' and hold its efficiency like it's supposed to. I think its like a Yank PT series.

Good vids. It's pretty tough to get a good shot of the speedo while taking off like a SOB isn't it? LOL

Screw it I'll post a couple more. I hope the OP is getting something out of this LOL!

When I went from my TCI 3000 to my Yank SS3600, I expected an increase in shift extension. But there was none. Stayed at 4200.

I am, the idea that I need a new stall.

That's no bueno, I hope I don't go through all that money and trouble only to go nowhere with that...

I went from a Circle D 2b (2800-3000) stall to a Circle D 4C 4000 stall. My shift extension went from dropping from 7000 to 5200 with the 2b to dropping from 7000 to 5900 with the 4c. The car went from a best of 11.27 @ 120.80 to a best of 11.07 @ 120.8 in the same weather. It was 1.5 quicker in the 60' and the rest of the benefit was all in by the 330' mark.
